Innovation is not always...

Updated: Oct 10, 2022

Innovation is not always about developing state of the art technology. Sometimes its about utilizing multiple areas of existing tech to develop a truly innovative solution.

See the attached article by Johnathan Gitlin from ARS TECNICA on Mercedes' Vision EQXX. Utilizing creative application of aerodynamics, simplifying the battery system (no active cooling) and utilizing a high DC voltage system (920V) to lower vehicle weight, and applying an integrated solar panel for the vehicle's 12V support systems, the prototype can go 747 miles with a software limited 87mph (140km/h) on a 70.2kWh battery, but still fast charge from 10% to 80% SOC in about 30 minutes.

It's the application of these various pieces of tech that makes the Vision EQXX an advanced innovative solution. Mercedes will be able to leverage the learnings from this innovative prototype to further advance their other EV offerings.
