Interesting development from Kohler. Their diesel backup generators are now able to be powered with HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil). I've been following HVO for a number of years, back to my days in edible oil filtration and uses for these those spent oils at EOL. As Kohler notes "The feedstocks are primarily waste products that don’t impact agricultural land use. These include waste vegetable oil, used cooking oil, and waste animal fats, but also fish fat from processing waste and inedible technical corn oil generated in the production of ethanol from corn."
It's a great way to convert low-quality waste materials into a renewable diesel fuel. It also offers additional advantages over fossil diesel such as better combustion, better cold start and reduced emissions. For further information see Kohler's info graphic below as well as the link to their HVO page.
